Staff Nurse

We are looking for a staff nurse with the necessary training to support and nurse patients towards good health. The nurse will deal with a range of patients, offering direct nursing care as well as, if necessary, physical or psychological support.
  • Candidates must be registered with An Bord Altranais
  • Minimum 6 months post graduate elderlycare experience is preferable
  • Strong clinical & communication skills are required
  • Must practice person centred approach in patient care
  • Ability to work as part of team & independently
  • Knowledge of HIQA Regulations and standards is essential
  • Eligible to work in Ireland




  • Assume responsibility on each shift for the nursing care of allocated residents
  • Ensure a high standard in care for the elderly is maintained at all times
  • Lead the team of Healthcare Assistants in providing high quality direct and indirect care
  • Build strong relationships with residents to encourage trust, and understand their needs
  • Evaluate resident care needs and in-conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team implement and evaluate individualized care plans that meet the resident’s needs
  • Form part of a dynamic environment where teamwork and personal development are encouraged
  • Ensure all documentation relating to residents is accurately maintained in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Identify patients’ care requirements, focus on their needs and act on them
  • Prepare patients for examinations and perform routine diagnostic checks (monitor pulse, blood pressure and temperature, provide drugs and injections etc)
  • Monitor and record patient’s condition and document provided care services

Healthcare Assistants

The role of the Health/Care Assistant is to assist in the care of the Resident's physical well-being and general day-to-day activities. The Health Care Assistant shares with other staff in meeting the personal care needs of Residents in a way that respects privacy, dignity of the individual and other basic values that ensure an excellent quality of life.
Promote high standards of safety, hygiene, and cleanliness, and also create an environment conducive to the care of the elderly.
  • FETEC/NFQ 5 or equivalent and a willingness to participate in training and development
  • Genuine interest in working within a Caring Environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Willingness to be team player




  • Ensure the highest levels of care are maintained by supporting/assisting Clients, when required, with washing, toileting, dressing, undressing, and all other aspects of daily living.
  • Assist Clients in all aspects of their care needs (e.g. Physical, emotional and spiritual). Provide attention when needed, whilst ensuring Clients retain their comfort and dignity.
  • Pay particular attention to assisting Clients who have limited mobility, or physical / learning difficulties, making the best use of aids provided.
  • Closely monitor Clients who may be confused and/or who have behavioural problems.
  • Assist in the promotion of continence.
  • Assist in the delivery of care for Clients who are dying or who have a progressive illness. Assist with the last office
  • Assist in the framework of social activities by interacting with clients and helping them continue with hobbies and activities in the care Centre.
  • Answer Nurse call system, assisting as required. Answer the door and telephone appropriately. Respond accordingly, and pass on messages promptly.
  • Under the supervision and guidance of senior Care Staff, report on the wellbeing of Clients.
  • Carry out regular checks on Clients at intervals determined by senior Staff Members.
  • Make Visitors feel welcome. Provide refreshments/assistance as and when required.
  • Make and change beds, ensuring that rooms are clean and tidy, and commodes are empty, in line with the Nursing Home's disposal of waste policy.
  • Ensure the Nursing Homes resources are used appropriately.
  • Clean and maintain equipment used by Clients / Relatives e.g. wheelchairs, hearing aids, spectacles etc. Ensure the Nursing Home is kept clean and tidy.
  • If applicable, care for clients' clothing and rooms as named, and ensure that all clothing is recorded and marked.
  • Ensure full privacy and dignity are maintained for the dying and the bereaved, in line with the company's policies and procedures.
  • Assist Clients who need help during meal times (be aware of swallowing difficulties, dietary requirements etc.) Assist with the serving of food/drinks as requested/required. Wash up as requested/required.
  • Escort Clients travelling to and from the Nursing Home e.g. on social outings, hospital visits etc.
  • Practice maximum integrity in all dealings with Clients' personal and financial affairs, and avoid abuse of the privileged relationship that exists with Clients.
